A Momentary Lapse of Reason

Três amigos conhecem-se num colégio interno onde crescem com a perfeita noção do seu lugar e fim na mundo. A sociedade em que se inserem usa as crianças orfãs como fonte de órgãos para os cidadãos. Elas crescem num ambiente positivo e são bem tratadas, mas logo aprendem que a partir de certa idade ou se tornam dadores forçados de órgãos ou tornam-se enfermeiros dos que dão os órgãos. Nesta história conhecemos Kathy, Ruth e Tommy, que vivem num colégio em Hailsham, Inglaterra. Tornam-se grandes amigos durante esses anos, mas chegando à maioridade separam-se e cada um segue o seu caminho. Mais tarde re-encontram-se, reacendendo a amizade entre Kathy e Ruth subindo de novo à superfície os sentimentos entre Kathy e Tommy.
“Never Let Me Go”, realizado por Mark Romanek (um realizador vindo do mundo dos videoclips), é baseado no livro homónimo de Kazuo Ishiguro, escritor, entre outros livros, de “The Remains of The Day”. A história faz lembrar um pouco o blockbuster de Michael Bay, “The Island”, mas com uma qualidade muito superior e um foco em pontos mais pertinentes do que a fuga de uma ilha, no meio de tiros e explosões. Por acaso nem desgosto do filme, mas acho que este “Never Let Me Go” era o que “The Island” devia ter sido. Tem uma atmosfera mais Orwelliana que me agrada. É um filme britânico só com actores britânicos. Alguns já bem conhecidos na altura, como Charlotte Rampling, Keira Knightley ou Carey Mulligan, mas também o então desconhecido, Andrew Garfield – que entretanto surgiu no “Social Network” e está para surgir com o fato do Homem-Aranha no próximo Verão.

Three friends know each other in a boarding school where they grow with the perfect idea of their place and purpose in the world. The society in which they operate uses orphan children as a source of organs for citizens. They grow in a positive environment and are well treated, but soon learn that after a certain age they can only become organ donors forced or nurses for those who give organs. In this story we know Kathy, Ruth and Tommy, who live in Hailsham, England. They become great friends during those years, but coming of age separate and each goes his way. Years Later they reunite, rekindling the friendship between Kathy and Ruth and developing the friendship beetween Kathy and Tommy into love.
“Never Let Me Go”, directed by Mark Romanek (a director from the world of music videos), is based on the homonymous book by Kazuo Ishiguro, author, among other books, “The Remains of the Day”. The story reminds a little of Michael Bay blockbuster, “The Island”, but with a much higher quality and a focus on more pertinent issues than the escape of an island in the middle of gunfire and explosions. I didn’t dislike the movie, but I think this “Never Let Me Go” was what “The Island” should have been. It has an Orwellian atmosphere that pleases me more. It is a British film with British actors only. Some well-known at the time, as Charlotte Rampling, Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan, but also the at the time unknown, Andrew Garfield - in the meantime appeared in “Social Network” and is to come up with the suit of Spider-Man this summer

Se gostam de apanhar sustos e sentir aquela tensão constante de um filme de terror decente então é este o filme a escolher! Creepy! | If you like to get the fright of your life and like to feel that constant tension that only a good horror movie can give you then this is the movie to pick! Creepy!
